Getting Ready to Take Off
May 16, 2010 - My husband, Jim (yes, the Smart Car Guy!), and I participated in this very small smart car event back in May. There were only 6 smart cars that showed up on the day of the event and only 5 that finished the 140-mile cruise, but what fun we had.
It was a gorgeous spring day (first nice weekend in some time; we had such a cold, rainy spring this year), just perfect for some smart car cruising.
We all met at a parking lot on the outskirts of Boise and then headed up beautiful Route 21 towards Idaho City, which was once a thriving mining city, but is now a sleepy, historical town set in the mountains.
We stopped for a bit in Idaho City to take in the sights and talk smart cars. Unfortunately, our leader Tom was having trouble with his smart import and had to bail out of the cruise, fearing he wasn't equipped for the winding mountain roads yet to come.
Soon, we were back on the road with a new volunteer leader and we headed over Mores Summit towards Lowman, Idaho. From there, it was back south towards picturesque Horseshoe Bend, Idaho, where we had dinner at Kit's Riverside Restaurant on the Payette River. Unfortunately, we sat inside, rather than on the outside porch overlooking the river.
After dinner, the group broke up and headed off independently back to our homes in and around Boise. A really fun day! And our first experience talking to other smart car enthusiasts in person.
