What is the smart car MPG?

I'm guessing such a small, fuel-efficient car like the smart car must get great mileage, right? How does it compare to cars like the Toyota Prius, the Honda Fit or the Mini Cooper?

I hate to admit it, Hank, but mileage is one area where the smart car really doesn't shine. I mean, it's loads better than your average SUV or pick-up truck, but compared to other fuel-efficient cars like the Toyota Prius, etc., it's not as competitive as I'd like to see.

The smart fortwo car is rated at 33 MPG in the city and 41 MPG on the highway. I've been getting just around 40 MPG; most of my driving is highway (I commute about 30 to 40 minutes each day, mostly on the interstate).

Now that's a heckuva lot better than I get in my 2000 Dodge Dakota pickup, but nowhere close to what my wife, Kathi, gets on her Buddy scooter (80 to 90 MPG)!
